Lena Vinz

Lena has been teaching guitar lessons for 30 years. She teaches acoustic, electric, and bass guitar for beginners and classical guitar for advanced players. Lena has a large library from which she can select almost any type of music to match the student’s tastes and is happy to teach any song a student may wish to learn. Lena plays in many styles including Spanish music, Classical, Blues, Jazz, Metal, Country, and Rock. She teaches her students how to read notes, chords, tablature, playing and singing, and playing solos by using a pick or fingers.

Organized recitals are periodically scheduled to give her students the opportunity to showcase their talents. Every February, Lena’s students have a chance to play at UWM for the annual Federation Student Festival. Students with superior level of playing may qualify to win a trophy or award.

Throughout her 20 years of teaching, Lena has picked up many gifted and talented students. Videos of her students can be found at the link below. Options for recording students are available at Be Sound.

Lena entered Music College in Ukraine at the age of 19, earning a Bachelor’s degree in classical guitar. She received her Masters Degree from the prestigious Ukraine Pedagogical University in 2002.

At the University, her focus was specifically learning the art of teaching guitar, acquiring the best pedagogical techniques to optimize student’s experiences across a wide range of needs. Classes included Methods of Teaching, Psychology of Children, Individual Repertoire, Pedagogic, and of course music classes. Classes like these prepared Lena to work with children and discover their individual ways of learning. Lena views every child as a special individual with different capabilities, and her goal is to find and develop the child's skills to each person’s fullest capacity to be successful in the skill of playing the guitar. While Lena embraces all styles of guitar playing, she strongly believes that it's best to learn how to play classical guitar first since it will give students a strong foundation to play other styles of music in the future.
